Day 1| 1º Dia

I woke up, looked out the window, and new I was in England: running along the fence at the far end of our back garden was… a grey squirrel! After a lazy morning, Ricardo took me for a drive around the area, pointing out train stations and bus stops, as well as the main landmarks and some areas on our future “to visit” list, including Bushy Park, Hampton Court and… Richmond Park! I’d already visited their website and thought it sounded promising, but… being in it was wonderful! At first I was pointing out deer everywhere, but after a couple of minutes or so I stopped counting!:) We also saw the ever-present grey squirrels, and had to stop to let some geese cross the road. After a while, the challenge became identifying the scores of deer as red or fallow dear. I’m afraid I have no pictures yet, as we were driving through, but since I fully intend to return there often, the time will come when you’ll be fed up with photos of Richmond Park… Before we left, we stopped the car at one of several car parks and went for a quick walk round the Isabella Plantation, an area which is fenced off to stop the deer from “attacking” all the flowers. Ricardo says it’s beautiful in spring, with rhododendrons in full bloom filling it with colour and smell, but I quite liked it as it is now, all lush green… I promise photos soon (weather allowing!)!

Acordei, espreitei pela janela, e soube que estava em Inglaterra: no topo da vedação ao fundo do nosso quintal estava... um esquilo-cinzento! Depois de uma manhã vagarosa, o Ricardo levou-me a dar uma volta de carro pelas redondezas, mostrando-me a localização de estações de comboios e paragens de autocarro, bem como os principais pontos de referência e alguns sítios na nossa futura lista de sítios “a visitar”, incluindo Bushy Park, Hampton Court e... Richmond Park! Eu já tinha visto o site deles e pareceu-me promissor, mas... estar lá ao vivo foi fantástico! De início apontava toda entusiasmada para cada veado que via, mas ao fim de uns minutos perdi-lhes a conta!:) Vimos ainda os sempre presentes esquilos-cinzentos e tivemos de parar o carro para deixar uns gansos atravessar a estrada. Lamento informar que ainda não tirei fotos, já que íamos no carro, mas como tenciono voltar lá muita vez, há-de chegar a altura em que vão estar fartos de fotos de Richmond Park! Antes de virmos embora, parámos o carro num dos vários parques de estacionamento e fomos dar uma volta na Isabella Plantation, uma área vedada para impedir os veados de “atacarem” as flores todas. O Ricardo diz que esta zona é lindíssima na primavera, com os rododendros em flor a encher o ar de cor e perfume, mas eu pessoalmente gostei muito dela como está agora, toda verdejante... Prometo fotos dentro em breve (desde que o tempo o permita!)!
